GOAL
The system is complex and can be unfair. As a result, legal trouble can cause stress and disrupt your life. Mr. Hillemeier's goal is to minimize these negative impacts while obtaining the best result possible. Mr. Hillemeier ensures your rights are recognized and protected. He knows the local system well: both the players and the procedure and practices of the courts. Oftentimes cases are negotiated and settled or dismissed, while other times cases may require a contested hearing or trial. In either case, Mr. Hillemeier is experienced and well-equipped to handle your case.
DUI LAW
DUI cases are complicated, involving both criminal and DMV courts, each with its own procedure and rules. In DMV court, for example, you have just 10 days to challenge the suspension of your driver’s license; if you do not request a hearing, DMV will automatically suspend your license effective 30 days after the stop. Requesting a hearing to challenge the suspension keeps your license valid for longer even if you end up losing the hearing. Each court imposes separate, different license suspensions. While DMV court concerns only your driving privilege, criminal charges could result in jail time, which could be mandatory with prior convictions. Mr. Hillemeier knows well these complexities of DUI law and would be happy to discuss your case with you, free of charge.
LOCAL ADVANTAGE
Mr. Hillemeier resides and practices law exclusively in the Eastern Sierra. There are distinct advantages to local counsel: They know the local players, they know procedure and practices of the courts, they know the local rules (written and unwritten), they live close to the courts (reducing costs), and they have a reputation in the community.
